General description
The Bird Collection preserves approximately 20,000 individually registered taxidermy specimens. Established in around 1830, it became a world-famous collection by the end of the 19th century, where numerous type-specimens (133) were retained. The whole material accounting for about 40.000 mounted specimens was completely destroyed in 1956, including the valuable ones from the tropics, substitution of which is no longer possible. The majority of the present material has originated from the Carpathian Basin, thus the representation of the avifauna from this region is quite significant
We also have a remarkable collection from Australia, Brazil and Argentina.
